Background of the Study

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program was established in 1973 as a means of fostering national integration and unity among Nigerian youths. By deploying university graduates to different regions of the country, the program aims to promote understanding, tolerance, and cooperation between people from diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Shinkafi Local Government in Zamfara State has seen the participation of many NYSC members, who contribute to the local community by providing educational services, healthcare, and development programs (Aliyu & Ibraheem, 2024). This study assesses the impact of the NYSC program in Shinkafi, examining whether the program has successfully promoted national unity and integration in a region characterized by ethnic diversity and socio-economic challenges.
